SUPPORT FOR COMMITTEE.
WORKERS’ COMPENSATION INQUIRY. RAILWAYMEN AND CARPENTERS GIVE EVIDENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 9. Further support for the Committee which is investigating the operation of the Workers’ Compensation Act is reported. To-morrow, evidence will be given by Mr L. Mcllvride, general secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, on behalf of over 9000 members, all of whom come under the Act. The Wellington City branch of the Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners has considered the attitude of the Alliance of Labour, regarding the inquiry, and has decided unanimously to support the Committee and to give evidence if necessary or desirable. The New Zealand Dairy Farmers’ Union, the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, the Department of Health, representatives of the Oil Companies, and Messrs M. J. Reardon and P. J. O’Regan, of Wellington, have addressed the Committee. The Committee resumed its deliberation to-day, and will continue its sittings under further notice.
