ORARI.
TENNIS CLUB. The committee of the Orari Tennis Club met on Monday evening. Mr W. E. Cook (club captain), was in the chair, and Mrs W. Watson, Miss N. Woods and Messrs E. P. Chambers, A. Henderson and J. M. Brown (secretary) were present. A motion of sympathy in the death of his brother, was passed with Mr D. M. Lamb, a member of the committee. Correspondence was received from Messrs J. Peters (Orari), L. Pierce, Alliance Assurance Co., P. O’Hagan (Timaru), and Alex Wildey Ltd. (Christchurch). It was resolved that the club insure the pavilion with t£ie Alliance Assurance Co. Mr O’Hagan’s letter was left in the hands of the captain and the secretary. The treasurer reported that the recent dance had benefitted the funds to the extent of £9. The present balance of the club was about £B. A motion of thanks to Mr G. W. Coombes, was passed for his donation of a prize for the married ladies’ waltzing competition. It was announced that a trophy had been promised for the singles’ tournament early in the season, and it was decided that the Club procure a further trophy. The “top o’ the ladder” tournaments, for the four top men and four top ladies on the club’s singles ladders, was fixed for Good Friday. It was decided to obtain a vice-president’s trophy for the men’s tournament, while Mrs W. Mason donated a trophy for the ladies’ tournament. Men’s and I ladies' handicap singles tournaments i are to be played on the same day. The j “top o’ the ladder” tournament for | combined doubles for Mrs D. M. Lamb’s trophy was set down to be played on ; April 21. It was decided to hold the annual meeting at the close of the present season, instead of at the beginning of the next season.
Two improvements to the hall this season are the electrically planed floor, and the concrete entrance. Workmen are at present engaged in painting the hall.
