FREEZING WORKS TROUBLE.
ALL QUIET IN NORTH CANTERBURY. (Special to the "Herald.”) CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. Killing is reported to be proceeding normally in all the freezing works in North Canterbury to-day, and works officials state that they are anticipating no trouble as the result of the strike in the South Otago works. The executive of the Canterbury Freezing Works and Related Trades Union met this morning, but Mr H. C. Revell, secretary to the Union, had no statement to make afterwards. The men at the New Zealand Refrigerating Company’s works at Islington held a meeting yesterday, to discuss the trouble in South Otago, and other matters; but it was only a short one, and there have been on developments as a result of it. GO SLOW DROPPED AT BURNSIDE. By Telegraph—Press -Association DUNEDIN, April 8. All is quiet at Burnside freezing works tOrday. After two days of “go slow,” the boards are now working at the normal rate, and it is not anticipated that the trouble at Finegand, where men are on strike, wall have any serious effect at Burnside. In the meantime, the “go slow” policy adopted on Friday, in sympathy with the workers at the Balclutha works, ceased yesterday. The men on the Burnside boards held a stopwork meeting from 8.15 am. to 10.30 a.m., and after the employers’ side was presented to them they decided to resume work at normal pace immediately. The tactics of the men since Friday caused a reduction in the k" v- of about 3000 sheep. The holdi the works, however, was not Sv~ .as, as when the trouble was first sighted on the horizon, the Company necessarily restricted deliveries. Killing proceeded in normal fashion at the South Canterbury works yesterday.
