LABOUR DIVIDED.
ALLIANCE AND TRADES COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON. April 8. Interesting developments are expected to take place in Labour circles in Wellington as a result of the Alliance of Labour urging Unions to refrain from giving evidence before the Committee which is inquiring into the workers’ Compensation Act.
It has been indicated already that there is no unanimity among Labour officials, and to a certain extent matters came to a head at a recent meeting of the Trades and Labour Council, which is affiliated to the Alliance of Labour as a district council. When a motion was moved supporting the action of the National Council of the Alliance of Labour, the motion was defeated, though not by a very substantial majority. The matter is to be discussed again by the Trades and Labour Council at its next meeting, which it is stated should be eventful.
