CUnited Press Association—B7 Electrli* Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON. April 7. At the woolsales 6140 bales were offered, including 3109 New Zealand and approximately 5230 were sold. There was a small offering of greasy Merinos, principally Continental style, and a good offering of greasy crossbreds. There was a steady demand and a good clearance at full late rates; New Zealand greasy crossbreds; Kra, top 103 d, average lOid; Te Pura 13d and 121 d; Pare 12d and 10£d; half-bred, Moeraki, 13d and At Bradford the Improvement was maintained, but business was small.

BRISBANE WOOL SALES. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received April 8, 8.55 p.m.) BRISBANE, April 8. The wool sales opened with keen Continental competition. Prices were 5 per cent, higher than March sales. OAT MARKET FIRMS. POTATOES AND ONIONS WEAK.

By Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 8. The position in the wheat market is unaltered. Grain is offering fairly steadily, and the prolonged period of fine weather is allowing a continuous run of threshing, which is more advanced than is usual at this time of the year. In regard to statistics published this week, it is the consensus of i opinion that the yield per acre will be j fairly close to what was estimated in a recent report—about 28 bushels. j Values for wheat remain unaltered, | and millers are not buying. Quotations are 5/8 on trucks for Tuscan, 1 5/10 to 5/11 for Hunters, and 6/2 for 1 Pearl. There is very little demand for fowl \ wheat. Its value remains firm at j 5/9 h to 5/10, f.0.b., sacks extra. The oats market is distinctly firmer j to-day, due to the fact that the st'&t- ; istics indicate a low proportion of i threshing. The weight of threshed \ oats shows a big reduction on last j year. Another element in the firming j is that buyers have been operating 1 freely at recent prices of 3/9 to 3/9 h, \ f.0.b., sacks extra. To-day the quotation is 3/10 for spread delivery for A. grade Gartons, and there are few or no sellers. The market is a southern one, “prompt” oats at Lyttelton being ( practically unprocur&ble. B. Gartons are available at 3/9, f.0.b.,5.i. There is little inquiry. Chaff is quoted at £6/12/6, f.0.b.,5.i., equivalent to £4/15/- to £5 a ton on trucks. The potato market continues weak, with prices unaltered. There are still plenty offering, but the demand is very restricted. Last week the Kaitoke took 2660 sacks to Auckland, and tomorrow the Karepo is to take a similar shipment to the same port. Quotations for prompt are 95/- for whites, and 97/6 for Dakotas; AprilJune £4/10/-, July-September £5/10/-, and July alone £5 per ton. The price to farmers is £3/10/- a ton on trucks. The onion market continues extremely weak, and the quotation re- | mains at £2 on trucks. There is an | all-round dearth of orders.

Peas have weakened as a result of advices from England, which state that the crop there has been a particularly good one, both in regard to quality and quantity, and it is not anticipated that the Old Country will require peas during the whole of the year. The latest quotation here is 4/- to 4/2 for No. 1, and to 3/9 for f.a.q’s.
