HEAVY RAINFALL.
WAIPUKURAU FLOODED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WAIPUKURAU, April 8. A heavy thunderstorm, accompanied by vivid flashes of lightning, and followed by a torrential downpour of rain, struck Waipukurau and district this afternoon. The parched ground was unable to absorb the phenomenal downpour. One hundred and ten points of rain fell in three-quarters of an hour, and the storm-water drains could not cope with it The water backed up and entered several shops, inundating a street in the lower portion of the No serious damage was done, and the countryside will benefit greatly. A Napier-Palmerston service car had its magneto struck by lightning, necessitating it being towed into a Waipukurau garage, a distance of nearly a mile. Wireless reports stated that there had been heavy falls in the Taranaki district also.
