A rather interesting fact is that the widows of three of New Zealand’s Premiers are still alive, and still have their residences in this country (states an exchange). Wanganui is the home of Mrs Ballance. who enjoys very good health, despite the fact that it is over 40 years since her husband, one of New Zealand’s most successful and popular Prime Ministers, died. The widow of “Dick Lionheart,” Mrs R. J. Seddon. lives in Wellington, and her interest in politics is continued through her son’s candidature and entry into the House of Representatives. Dame Christina Massey, widow of the great Reform Prime Minister, is the third of a trinity of women whose place in our political life has been an outstanding and dignified one. VISITORS’ LISTS. On Wednesday last, before the annual general meeting, members of the Christchurch branch met informally at dinner. The spirit of the forthcoming School Jubilee to be held in Timaru at Easter was very marked, and the forty members present spent a very enjoyable time. Mrs Penney welcomed the guests, and spoke of the aims of the branch, and said the co-operation of all members was needed for the fulfilment of those aims. Miss Peggy Bowie responded for those who had more recently come to Christchurch. After dinner all adjourned to the lounge room. A very happy feature of the evening was the roll call, and it was exceedingly pleasing to find the earlier years of the School’s existence so well represented. «The pupils of the foundation year, 1383. were represented by Mrs M. Josling and Miss F. Evans. The reminiscences of these and of other early pupils were greatly appreciated. During the evening lecitations were given by Miss Leonelle Tizard and Mies Peggy Bowie. Later in the evening business tok the place of pleasure. The secretary, Miss P. Clowes, spoke of the arrangements that had been made for the jubilee, and requested all those ex-pupils who required jubilee badges or copies of the jubilee number of the “Timaru Herald,” or who were not on the official roll, to communicate with her. The treasurer, Miss L. Tizard, presented the balance sheet. Mrs Penney thanked the committee for the help they had given during the year, and spoke of the loss to the branch of the two vice-presidents, Mrs Slater and Miss Veda Townsend, who had left Christchurch.
