GOLF. The following is the draw for the flag match to be played by the Ladies' Golf Club at Waimate links to-day:— Seniors—Mrs Templar v. Miss R. Hertslett. Juniors—Mrs McLean v. Mrs Foster; Mrs Hertslett v. Miss Akhurst; Miss Jones v. Mrs Borne; Mrs Fraser v. Miss Eaden. A—Mrs Johnson ! v. Mrs Shackleton. B —Mrs Shaw v. j Miss M. McLean; Mrs Holmes v. Mrs Fitts; Mrs Brenton v. Miss Cochrane. RUGBY SUB-UNION. The annual report to be presented to delegates to the V/aimate Rugby SubUnidn, states that the competitions were very keenly contested. The SubUnion offered congratulations to the Old Boys’ Club on winning the premiership for the first time, and to the Huimai Club on winning both the junior and third-grade cups. The Sadler shield was won by the Southern Club, while Marist were successful in winning the Publicans’ Knock-out Cup. The Huimai junior team won the Hennessy Knock-out Cup. The result proved very satisfactory, as each club managed to win a trophy in one or other of the grades. The school seven-a-side games were continued at halftime during the season, and the Waimate primary school proved the winner of the Nelson Cup after many keenly contested games. Old Boys were successful in their endeavour to lift the Clarke shield from the North Otago Old Boys. The same club travelled to Fairlie, but owing to the lateness of the season were able to field only a weak team, and were most decisively beaten in the Burnett shield match. Three representative fixtures were played, Waimate winning against Waitaki and losing the Mackenzie and South Canterbury . matches. The seven-a-side tournament again proved the event of the season. The winners were: Senior, Southern; junior, Huimai; third grade, School; town schools, Waimate primary; country schools, Willowbridge, Hannaton; bantam, Waimate primary. Sincere thanks were due to the Waimate Referees’ Association. The Committee appealed to all retiring players to consider offering their services to this energetic body. It was with regret that they recorded the removal from the district of Mr C. W. Kibblewhite, who for a number of years was one of the ablest referees. Electric light was installed on the grounds and grandstand at the commencement of the season, and was much appreciated by the players, as it gave them the opportunity for outdoor practice In the evenings. Lockers for each club had been placed in each dressing room. A turnstile had been placed at the entrance gate, and the fences had been repaired. A road was now through from Wall Street to Cameron Street, and the thanks of patrons living north of Queen Street were due to the Borough Council. The trees around the grounds had made good progress, and | will make a great shelter belt in a few years’ time. The statement of receipts and expenditure showed a debit balance of £5/14/10 after the year’s working. The assets total £1229/1/5 and the liabilities £477/14/10, leaving a credit balance of £751/6/7. Thanks are recorded to Mr P. V. Stevens, Mr T. Turnl> 11, Mr J. Atwill and Mr J. B. Fox, the Old Boys’ Football Club, and the Marist Club, for donations towards installing the electric light. Thanks are due to the Borough Council for their valuable contribution towards beautifying the grounds; to St. John Ambulance Brigade for assistance and prompt attention to injured players; to the police for their assistance at all | times; to Mr Parry for auditing the books; and to the Press for reporting meetings and matches. They had also to thank Mr Turnbull, who has left the district, for services at all times to Rugby football, and to Miss Stevens for valuable assistance in the ticket-box.
