LAND SETTLEMENT.
GOVERNMENT’S PURCHASES. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 3. An official statement shows that £564,089 has been paid by the Government for private estates for closer settlement. So far 955 offers have been received, and 33 properties, totalling 53,840 acres, have been purchased. These will be cut into 154 holdings. Other properties are under consideration.
