LABOUR IN POLITICS
ATTITUDE OF INDEPENDENT GROUP. (United Press Association—By Electrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) LONDON, April 3. A record number of resolutions (140) was contained in the agenda for the Independent Labour Party Conference at Birmingham on April 19. Many of these reveal impatience with the Government’s policy, which is epitomised in the declaration of the Birmingham City branch: “The Labour leaders have gone over from Socialism to Imperialism and no longer deserve the support of the workers.” Other branches are demanding a six hour day in the mines. In regard to national finance it is suggested that the Chancellor should have the assistance of a committee in framing the Budget. The resolutions urge drastically increased taxation of large incomes and increased death dutiej. In reference to Mr Macdonald’s resignation from the Independent Labour Party, it is stated that his "irreconcilable difference of opinion has deepened since he accepted the Prime Ministership.”
