A letter was received from the Auckland Returned Soldiers’ Association stating that a special commemeration anthem had been composed and written for Anzac Day services throughout New Zealand. The Auckland Association had had the anthem published, and it was now available to all kindred associations. It was resolved to request the Auckland Association to forward a copy to the South Canterbury Association for their inspection. A communication was received from 1 the Timaru Borough Council, stating that the Association had been granted < April 24 as Poppy Day. 1 The Department of Internal Affairs ) wrote stating that the Minister of In--ternal Affairs had approved of per- ! manent work being carried out on s Blocks A. B. D and E of the new 1 soldiers’ portion of the Timaru Ceme- • tery. When this work had been completed, the work of exhuming the bodies of those soldiers already buried in the public portion of the cemetery, and their re-burial in the Soldiers’ Cemetery could then be undertaken where the relatives agreed to this course. Nicholson stated that all present had seen the notices in the , daily papers of the intention of the ( Government to curtail the territorial ( training in New Zealand, and he de- . sired to move the following motion in protest. “That the South Canterbury Returned Soldiers’ Association views with apprehension the action of the Government in suddenly curtailing territorial training, and that the As- j sociation affirms the necessity for the continued maintenance of an efficient land force; and that tl.e Association supports the continuance of the territorial system.”—The motion was carried unanimously.
