FIRE ON COMORIN.
MAILS AND CARGO DAMAGED. (United Press Association—By IQectrio Telegraph—Copyright.) COLOMBO, March 16. In spite of the assurance of the local agents, there appears to have been considerable cargo and Australian mails damaged by the fire on the Comorin. Trunks, suitcases, etc., were brought to the Customs baggage room late last night, and passengers were seen sorting and seeking to rescue wearing apparel, which suffered from fire and water. Expert opinion is to the effect that the ship has not suffered much structural damage. Post Office clerks were sent aboard to examine the damaged bags and insured parcels and letters on the Comorin before she left port yesterday.
