PROHIBITION IN U.S.A
ACTIVITIES OF “DRY” SUPPORTERS. (United Press Association—By Electrio Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received March 16, 11 p.m.) WASHINGTON, March 15. The Prohibition Bureau has devised a new alcohol denaturant, which is expected to solve an immensely difficult problem, not being poisonous, and yet inseparable. The new product is petroleum or naptha distillate. The Bureau technician said: “We do not feel we are taking an unsportsmanlike advantage of the drinker. He will be sorry, but not paralysed.” Testimony before the “Dry” Committee was continued to-day. John Callaghan, New York’s “Bishop of Bowery,” gave graphic accounts of the old days. He declared: “I hope to God the dry law will stay on the books.” He gave a picturesque account of his experience when the “Suicide Hall” and the “Tub of Blood,” and such places, catered for men “without God and without hope, who now have homes, families and radios.”
