Priestly, of the teaching j staff of the Temuka District High f School secondary department, who has been appointed to a position at | a Hawke’s Bay school, left for his new < home by the second express for the I north on Friday.

Prior to the luncheon adjournment, Mr Priestly was met by the headmaster (Mr W. L. Harrison) and his colleagues on the staff, also by pupils of the school, and presented with a solid leather attache case. Messrs Harrison and P. Campbell spoke on behalf of the scholars, eulogising Mr Priestly’s good qualities as a man and j a teacher. Master Dan Hopkinson , made the presentation, and the recipi- i ent made a suitable reply. At the conclusion, three hearty cheers were given for Mr Priestly.

PICNICS. Travelling by special train, which arrived in Temuka at 10 a.m. on Saturday, about 650 adults and children spent a glorious day amid ideal surroundings in the Temuka Domain. Organised by the Timaru West School j Committee, the outing proved to be a I great success, and the weather was J as near perfect as could be. The ex- « cursionists were met on arrival by the Mayor (Mr T. E. Gunnion, who spared no effort in connection with the conveniences of the party, and when the visitors arrived in the Domain, the curator (Mr A. E. Sports were carried out during the day under the supervision of the headmaster, Mr W. G. Burns, and the chairman of the School Committee Mr W. J. Thomson.
