RIFLE SHOOTING

TIMARU DEFENCE CLUB. On Saturday afternoon the Timaru Defence Rifle Club held its weekly shoot on the Temuka range. The day was very hot, and the light was difficult, but some very good shooting was registered. Rifleman W. Malcolm put on 45 at 500, while C. Blackwood and W. R. Grant got 44 at 600. A. Agnew and W. Bradshaw scored 44, which was splendid shooting under such conditions with the small bull.

The season is drawing to a close, and with only two more shoots for the championship, the position is getting very keen. Vice-President W. E. Jones is still in the lead by six points from Bradshaw, though Bradshaw has gained one point this week. Hull is third, but Foden caught 5 points on him on Saturday, making them equal. W. Malcolm was ninth, and has pulled up to sixth place. Hopkins is holding his position as fifth, and everything points to a real good finish.

In the Vice-President’s Trophy competition, Hull, who has led all the season, fell back to fourth place. Jones has gone from third to first place, with Bradshaw second, Jones having a lead of three points. In the President’s Cup, Jones still leads by seven points from Bradshaw. In the Gold Rifle Competition Jones and Bradshaw are equal with 3h each. The day’s match, including handicaps, was won by Rifleman A. Agnew 95, with Rifleman W. Wood second with 91. The Gold Rifle was won by Rifleman Bradshaw with nine bulls. The following were the scores:—
