The Tengawai Traffic Bridge, near Pleasant Point, is closed to traffic exceeding three tons gross weight.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals notifies that a garden party and gymkhana will be held at Holme Station grounds, kindly lent by Mr A. S. Elworthy, on Saturday, March 29. Competitions will be held for motor cars, motor cycles, ponies, dogs and children’s pets, and there will be sheep-dog trials and the handling of an unbroken horse. Two grass tennis courts will be available for enthusiasts, as well as croquet and putting competitions. Arrangements have been made to have band music in the grounds. The garden is in beautiful order, and will be well worth a visit. Buses will lea've Lister’s Garage on the day of the party.

The success of last year’s apron competition has brought forth a linen traced table centre competition for this year. Morison’s Ltd., Timaru, begin this next Wednesday, 19th March. An exhibition of fine prints is at present on view at the A.M.P. Buildings in Stafford Street. Although etching and kindred methods are the features of the display, there are water colours and colour wood-block prints. Mrs Elizabeth Keith is an English lady who has lived in the East, and the result is a unique set of colour prints. Among the other gems the most notable are the works of Louis Rosenberg, Malcolm Osborne, Tunnicliffe, etc. The exhibition closes on Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Something in the nature of a record crop of tomatoes has been grown this season by Mr John Egan, Patea. One plant has no less than 140 good aver-age-sized tomatoes on it, and many have over 70. The crop was grown on, papa soil, no manure being used.
