BOXING. A meeting of the committee of the Waimate Amateur Boxing Association was held on Friday evening, with the president (Mr G. E. Bray), in the chair. The secretary reported having received a: cles for £IOO, 15 rounds professional contest duly signed by each of Jhe managers of the contestants. The permit to hold the contest had also come to hand. A letter had been sent to the New Zealand Boxing Council asking that the heavyweight professional title be handed to the Waimate Association to be competed for in the Cleverley-r-Campbell contest, as requested by the title-holder, E. Parker, but no reply had been received. Mr Willbughby, Christchurch, wrote on behalf of S. McKane in reference to a bout with C. Brosnahan.—The secretary was instructed to write stating that as no reply had been received to a previous communication, other arrangements had been made. Mr P. Connors, Wellington, manager for Cleverley, wrote agreeing to accept Mr T. Nightingale as referee. It was decided that the president and secretary purchase trophies to the' value of £5/5/- for each om the preliminary bouts. THE BAND. VALEDICTORY. Residents of Willowbridge assembled in large numbers recently at Willowbridge Hall to tender a farewell and presentation to Mr T. E. Fletcher, who is leaving for an extended trip to Britain. In the unavoidable absence of the chairman of the Hall Committee (Mr J. C. Faulkner), Mr S. Cox presided He said that his acquaintance with Mr Fletchqr had extended over 17 years, during which he had had many opportunities of knowing the many estimable qualities possessed by their guest. As an employer, a neighbour, and in business affairs, Mr Fletcher had always been above reproach, and the large attendance that evening was ample testimony to the esteem in which he I was held throughout the district. ! During the evening a progressive j euchre tournament was held, the prizewinners being Mrs B. Richardson and Mr J. Hollamby.
