RICCARTON NOTES. (Special to the ‘‘Herald.”) CHRISTCHURCH, Feb. 21. The C.J.C. summer meeting will be held to-morrow. Last year an attempt was made to put the programme through with smaller intervals between races, commencing at 1.15, but tomorrow a start will be made at 1 o’clock, and an extra fifteen minutes is allowed at the end of the day. Rapier and Pride are engaged in the Craven Plate as well as the Midsummer Handicap, but are expected to run in the longer race. If so, Pride is certain to be favourite, as she will meet her opponents on much better terms than she would have done at Dunedin. C. Emerson will ride Aspiring in the Middle Park Plate and Solgele in the Trial Plate. Aspiring appears to have made a good recovery from whatever ailment it was that affected her recently. L. J. Ellis has made a good recovery from the mishap that occurred to him at Tapanui. He will be riding at Riccarton to-morrow, among his mounts being Charmaine, Quinopal and Silver Coot, while he may be on Ravine in the Trial Plate. The weather was mild during training hours at Riccarton this morning. A light shower of rain fell early, but it did not last long and the work was got through in pleasant conditions. Most of the horses who are engaged at the Canterbury Jockey Club’s meeting were out, but proceedings were not of much interest. Practically all the work was done on the plough, most of it being of an easy character. T. Green will make a trip from the North Island to ride Mr G. D. Greenwood’s horses at the meeting, while he will also be on Ranelagh, with whom he secured a win and a second at Wingatui. L. Evans will handle Rapier in the Midsummer Handicap. Praise stands out as the star of the Lyttelton Plate field, and with all her weight she can be relied on for a good performance. She disgraced herself at the start of the Dunedin Champagne Stakes, but she showed no signs of giving trouble when schooled at the barrier this week. The Waimate trainer, T. Hobbs, has put in an appearance with Mount Boa, who looks well after his recent racing. J. Fielder has arrived from Wingatui with Blue Metal, who is engaged in the Middle Park Plate. He will be ridden by B. H. Brodie. who may handle Mount Boa in the Halswell Handicap. E. Manson remained at Riccarton after the Dunedin meeting, to ride Hoylake in the Midsummer Handicap. Weatherby, who is to run in the two-year-old handicap, is trained by R. C. Keeper at Orari, and is' reported to be smart.
