WINCHESTER,
On Wednesday evening, there was a good attendance at the final meeting of the Victoria Hall Bazaar Committee. Mr L. H. Orbell, chairman and secretary, presented a balance sheet, in connection with the recent bazaar held, for the purpose of raising funds for the improvement of the hall. The receipts were £l2O/1/7 ancl expenditure £25/16/-, leaving a credit balance of £94/5/7. On the motion of Messrs T. H. Langford and A. G. Kimber, the balance sheet was adopted. Mr Orbell thanked those who had assisted at the bazaar. He specially mentioned the work which the ladies had done. They had worked most assiduously together, and he was pleased that their efforts had materially helped to make the function a success. He thanked those who had donated prizes and trophies for various competitions, and said the hall had now £199/2/11 towards the improvements of the hall. The gross takings competition of the bazaar, for a pig donated by Mr W. R. Pearce, was won by Mr W. Pearce (Winchester). Mr J. Billings won Mrs J. C. South’s cushion, which was drawn for on Wednesday evening. Mrs J. C. Mcßratney mentioned that about £6 worth of goods were left unsold, and it was decided to hold a euchre tournament after harvest and to run a stall for the goods to be sold. Mr Langford proposed a vote of thanks to Mr Orbell, who had largely been responsible for the success of the bazaar. He had given a great deal of his time, and he had been indefatigable in his efforts. Mr Orbell, in returning thanks said he greatly appreciated what had been said of his work in connection with the bazaar. When he came to Winchester to live he intended to do his best for the community, and what he had done in the past he would do in the future.
