NAVAL POWERS IN CONFERENCE.

Supplementing of Kellogg Pact.

SENATE OPPOSITION LIKELY. (United Press Association—By 'f’ectrla Telegraph—Copyright, i (Received February 21. 7.23 p.m.) NEW YORK. February 20. The Washington correspondent of “The Times” says that the old group of “Irreconcilables” in th-i Senate let it be known emphatically to-day that they would resist any commitments entered into at the London Conference by the American delegation which have a political tinge. The idea is being fostered that the sentiment of Senate is rather definitely against the conclusion of any agreements such as would be supplementing the Kqflogg Pact with consultative provisions. Opposition to such a move would probably be led by Senator Borah, who has indicated that he would oppose vigorously any move committing the United States to joint action in case of violation of the Kellogg Treaty. There is a group in the Senate which it is known, will not oppose political commitments in order to recur naval limitations, but at the present time they appear somewhat hesitant in expressing their views.

The Italian naval demands caused irritation and vexation in the majority ,of the Press. “Le Journal” epitomises the claims as fantastic and attempting to put France in the wrong.
