IMPERIAL CONFERENCE CONVENED. (British Official Wire'.eas.) RUGBY, February 19. In the House of Commons, the Prime Minister. Mr Macdonald, announced that the opening meeting of the Imperial Conference would take place in London on September 30. Asked what steps he proposed to take to ensure closer economic relationship between Great Britain and the Dominions and colonies, Mr Macdonald said that some aspects at least of the problem would be discussed at the forthcoming Imperial Conference, and he hoped that some definite conclusions would be reached.

Australia’s announcement that the Imperial Conference assembles on September 30 is not denied here, neither is it confirmed. There have been confidential communications on the subject, but when a high official was questioned the only reply was that if Australia feels called upon to make an announcement we do not.
