The Dutch swimmer Miss Braun, made a world’s record for the women’s 400 metres free style, in 5 min 46.35ec. INVITATION TO BRIDSON. Ey Telegraph—Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 20. At a meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Swimming Association to-night, the secretary stated that he had received an invitation from the New South Wales Association for G. Bridson (Auckland) to visit Australia this year. Bridson had advised that he was unable to undertake a long tour this season. The Council decided to forego any claim to part of the subsidy of £IOOO offered by Canada for a team from New Zealand to visit the Efhpire Games, the understanding being that the Rowing Association should have the whole subsidy to send the best eight ayailable. COOK STRAIT ATTEMPT ABANDONED. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, Feb. 20. Owing to the unsettled weather conditions, with no prospect of improvement, and the water so cold as to make the chance of success unreasonable, E. J. Webster has definitely postponed his attempt to swim Cook Strait until next year, when he will make preparations earlier.
