UNHAPPY CHINA
SPRING MILITARY CAMPAIGN MpOTED. (United Press Association—By Filectr.’c Telegraph—Copyrlgli t.j SHANGHAI, February 18. General Yen-Hsi-Shan’s ultimatum to Nankin demanding General Chiang-Kai-shik’s retirement and forecasting an outbreak of hostilities in the near future, has not produced the excitement anticipated in Government circles. General Chiang-Kaii-Shik is taking a determined stand, and refuses to abdicate, while the country remains in a state of military unrest. This attitude is supported apparently by all members of the Government. The Army chiefs have been instructed to assemble at Nankin, allegedly to discuss the suppression of bandits, but the real object is believed to be the planning of a spring campaign.
