OUTPUT OF SHIPS
INCREASE FROM BRITISH AND IRISH YARDS.
(United Press Association—By Electrio Jel egraph—Copyright.) LONDON, February 4. According to Lloyd’s annual summary of mercantile shipbuilding throughout the world, the 1929 output reached 2,793,210 tons, an increase of 93,971 tons, compared with 1928.
The output from the British and Irish yards represents 54.5 of the whole world's total, compared with 53.6 in
1927 and 1928. Internal combustion vessels account for 84.4 per cent, of the steam tonnage, compared with 62.8 in 1927. The tonnage of motor ships is nearly 400,000 tons above steam. There was a notable increase in oil burners, which in 1914 totalled 1,310,000 tons, but is now nearly 20,000,000 tons.
