Mr Hugh Trumble, secretary of the Melbourne Cricket Club, who returned from New Zealand to-day, said that he had witnessed the cricket tests in New Zealand, and was impressed with the progress New Zealanders were making. There were many really good batsmen in New Zealand. SHEFFIELD SHIELD MATCH. QUEENSLAND DEFEATED. In the Sheffield Shield match against Victoria, Queensland in the second innings made 200 (Benstead 79 and Hubbard 65). Ironmonger took 3 for 51, Blackie 3 for 62 and Alexander 2 for 41. Victoria won by an innings and 55 runs. Victoria now goes to Adelaide, and if they gain an outright win against South Australia, will capture the Shield from New South Wales.
