AUSTRALIAN DEFENCE
MINISTER FACES QUANDARY. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) ADELAIDE, February 4. The delay in granting approval for the new militia uniforms is causing comment. It is pointed out that the Minister of Defence faces a quandary. The issue of new uniforms will mean scrapping others, which cost £248,000 and if the Government’s objective of 35,000 enlistments is reached, the cost of clothing them will be £210,000. Thus a saving of £150,000 on camps this year would be offset by the cost of the new uniforms and the scrapping of the old, totalling £458,000.
