SUMMIT ROAD WORKS

ANOTHER BLASTING ACCIDENT. By Telegraph—Pr*sa Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 5. A blastihg accident occurred on the Summit road works this afternoon. A plug of gelignite exploded prematurely, and H. Yeatman, married, a wellknown athlete, was seriously injured. He was head man of a co-operative gang employed by the Government on relief work. He was experienced in the use of explosives, and apparently used a short length of fuse which fired while he was tamping the charge and fuse into a hole. The charge fired and drove the tamping rod through his forearm, besides injuring his face. There have been two fatal blasting accidents within recent months on the Summit road works.
