AUSTRALIANS AT AUCKLAND. BOTH VISITORS DEFEATED. By Telegraph—Press Aucciatioa. AUCKLAND, December 5. The Australian swimmers made their final Auckland appearance at a carnival at the Tepid Baths to-night. In an 880 yards scratch event, N. Ryan (Australia), was defeated by G. Brisdon by 18 yards. Brisdon, who is New Zealand middle-distance champion, covered the distance in llmin 21 2/ssecs, breaking D. P. Lindsay’s New Zealand record by 4 1/5 seconds. Ryan swam better than on the previous night, but his form was nothing approaching his best time for the distance, .which is llmin 20sec. A 'SO yards invitation scratch race resulted in J: P. Farrell (Auckland sprint champion) defeating Griffiths (Australia), biy a touch in 26 seconds. It was considered by many that Raper (Auckland), who was placed third, won the race, but as he finished under the judges, he was not noticed.
