BOBBY CALVES.
QUESTION OF CRUELTY. By Telegraph — Pre*s Aaaociatloa. WELLINGTON, Sept. 27. When a deputation from the Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to An/mals waited on the Hon. G. \Y. Forbes to-day with reference to the bobby calf business, Dr. C. J. Reakes, Director-General of Agriculture, said the age limit of five days was being much more rigidlv enforced this year, and the conditions generally had been much improved. The trade had been given a lot of attention by the Department-. Every effort was made to have calves dealt with as quickly as possible. Everything was ’being done t-o see that they went through the minimum of suffering. Mr Minn said he was sure the officers of the Denariment would co-operate with the Society to sen that ro cases of crueltv occurred. The whole question would be- investigated.
