Loughran with a right to the jaw, winning on a technical knock-out.

The final knock-out blow was delivered twenty-seven seconds after the beginning of the third round, and came unexpectedly. Their wariness throughout the opening round of the contest, and a tendency to box at a distance, had promised a drawn-out contest. The sharp and decisive manner in which Sharkey disposed of his opponent demonstrated that Loughran has no place among the heavyweights of to-day. Smashing through Loughran’s feeble guard, at the opening of the third round, Sharkey sent his opponent to the floor. When Tommy staggered to his feet, he did not know where he was, and reeled along the ropes into a neutral corner. Sharkey was ready to deliver the finishing punch, but this was not necessary, the referee stepping between them, declared Sharkey the winner. Loughran was carried into his corner, and was then ready to continue the fight. In the words of one competent observer: “It was one of those fights where the boxing skill of one of the contenders (Loughran), counted for nothing against the sudden aggressiveness and superior power of his opponent.” CAGNON DEFEATS MALONEY.
