LAST NIGHT’S PROGRAMME. Gay lights and the bright music of the Timaru Cadet Band attracted quite a number to the Main School Gala last evening. The inhospitable weather did not deter the merry-makers, and the various games and competitions, which had perforce to be held in one of the classrooms owing to the unsuitable conditions outside, were patronised by an enthusiastic crowd. Last evening the positions of the Queens were as follows: —Red (St. IV.), 1; Green (Std. III.), 2; Pink (Stds. I. and II.), 3; Blue (Std. V.), 4; Infants’ 5. Following are the results of the tug-of-war competitions:— Schools’ Grade (under 6st).—Std. 3 A. beat Std. 3 B. by 10 inches; Std. 4 (A. Waters capt.) beat Std. 4 (G. Ruddle capt.) by 7 inches; Std. 5 (E. Register capt.) beat Std. 6 (P. Walton capt.) by 9 inches; Std. 3 F. beat Std. 3 E. by 2 inches. Senior (average weight 9st 71b).— Live Y’rs beat Zingari by 3 inches; Gleniti beat Alliance by 9 inches. Pulls for Saturday afternoon:— Under 6 stone: Std. 3 C. v. Std. 3 D.; Std. 3 F. v. Std. 3 A.; Std. 4 v. Std. 5. 7 stone 7 pounds: Std. 5 (A. Henderson capt.) v. Std. 6 (Chamberlain capt.); Std. 5 (R. Brown capt.) v. Std. 6 (de Clifford capt); Std. 5 (G. Henderson capt.), a bye.
