COCAINE SMUGGLERS.

CUSTOMS’ OFFICERS HAUL. (Unittd Press Association —By Electris Telegraph—Copyright. ) DELHI, August 27. After an exciting chase down the river Hooghly, rummaging officers of the Calcutta Customs last night made a haul of 1175 ounces of cocaine, of a value of over £13,000, from a fishing smack at Garden Reach. Observing the smack moving suspiciously away from the side of a steamer, the Customs officers pursued it, instructing the oarsmen to dip their oars as silently as possible. The smugglers, aware of the pursuit, immediately pulled away, an exciting race ultimately resulting in their being overtaken. The smugglers jumped overboard, abandoning forty-seven tins, each containing twenty-five ounces of cocaine.
