WEATHER FORECAST .
CONFERENCE OF METEOROLOGISTS OPENS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, August 23. A Conference of Meteorologists from all parts of the British Empire began in London to-day. The Under-Secretary for Air (Mr F. Montague), opening the conference, remarked upon the official importance of meteorology in regard to aviation. He said the need for an adequate meteorological organisation to meet the requirements of the air transport services became a matter of vital importance on the Empire air routes in process of formation. An important part was also played by meteorology in other directions, such as in the service of shipping, assistance of agricultural and naval and military services. It was manifestly clear that an exchange of information, co-ordination of plans, and the perfection of organisation of meteorological services in these interests were of fundamental importance to the British Empire to the world in this vast importance. The true ideal of Empire was service. It was in its service to civilisation and peaceful development for the benefit of a whole human race, that our great Empire was to be judged.
