BOWLING

PARK CLUB The committee of the Park Bowling Club will submit the following report to the annual meeting of members on Thursday next:— We commenced the season with a credit balance of £l3/6/9, and ended with a small credit. Against this there are some outstanding subscriptions to come in, which will give the Club a balance to commence the new season. Centre Competitions. The Club entered two teams, comprising four rinks each, and although they were not successful in winning any of the competitions, a good number of wins i were obtained by both teams. Several f friendly games were also played with other clubs, and these proved most . enjoyable. The Club played Waimate j for the Bristol Cup, but the holders i proved too strong, and retained the j trophy by a fair margin of points. I Club Competition.—The usual Club ! competitions were held during the sea- | son, and also an extra doubles com- j petition for prizes kindly donated by j jMr J. Gilmore. The following were ; the winners of the respective competi- j [tions: — Championship Singles —F. B. I Hawkey; runner-up, J. Millar. Club; doubles—R. Kirk (s) and C. Clarkson; j runner-up, C. Howe (s) and J. Toney- ! cliffe. Challenge Cup—R. Kirk (s), J. j

| Gilmore, H. Barker, H. Creasy. Gilmore doubles—D. Bell (s), A. Oliver.

Champion of Champions.—The Club were represented in the various competitions, but did not meet with a great amount of success in the games played.

Christmas Tournament. We are I pleased to report that a team from this jciub, comprising W. Cowles (s), W. ; Boyce, D. Bell and J. Gilmore, were j successful in winning the rink com- | petitions at this tournament. We wish to congratulate them on their j success, as it is an honour to the Club for a team to be successful against the numerous players that take part In this tournament.

Membership.—The membership roll at the end of the season was 45. This, we wish to point out, is a decrease on last year, and unless the membership can be supplemented this season, the annual meeting will have to seriously consider the question of increasing the annual subscriptions. Members will notice that the income of the club barely covers working expenses for. the year, and the executive will welcome a full discussion on this matter.

Obituary.—lt is with much regret that we have to record the death of two valuable members during the year, Messrs W. Hitch and A. Sherlock. These members were very enthusiastic bowlers, and their presence will be very much missed by their fellow members. Presentation of prizes.—This function was held this year in the Scottish Hall, taking the form of a social evening. Invitations were sent to memjbers’ wives and lady friends of the Club, and a most enjoyable evening was spent in games, cards and dancing. The lady friends of the Club supplied the refreshments for the evening, and your executive greatly appreciate the efforts to make the evening so successful, and those of all who any way assisted on that occasion.

Closing Day.—This function took the form of a Ladies’ Day, and although the weather was not all that could be desired, there was a good attendance of members and lady friends. Games were provided for the ladies, and a most enjoyable afternoon terminated a very successful season. The thanks of the Club are due to the ladies for providing refreshments for the afternoon.

In conclusion, the executive wish to thank members for their co-operation and support during the season, Mr Harper and his staff for their careful attention to the green, Messrs F. J. Rolleston and Mr C. Raymond for donation of club funds, and all those who in any way assisted the club during the season. WEST END CLUB.
