THE WEATHER. On Saturady rain fell intermittently until noon, when it ceased, being replaced by sunshine alternating witn heavy passing clouds which continued until 3 p.m. when a heavy fall of hail occurred. Early on Saturday morning there was a light fall of snow on the Geraldine Downs, and the temperature was similar to that of winter, the thermometer registering 25 degrees. The rainfall for the twenty-four hours ending » a.m. Saturday was 113 points. Heavy snow has fallen on Four Peaks, reaching to the lower levels, and reports from the country indicate that a number of new lambs have died owing to the inclement weather. EARTHQUAKE RELIEF. On Friday afternoon the pupils of the Braemar kindergarten held their end of the term party at the residence of Miss Mollie Bell, “Waiwera,’’ Geraldine. Indoor games were held in the drawing room which was bright with multi-coloured streamers and spring flowers. Songs and recitations were given by the pupilps, and a treasure hunt was won by Miss Prudence Davison. Atemoon tea was dispensed, and added to the pleasure of a happy gathering. The end of the term social held by the pupils of the Geraldine District High School in the Town Hall was very successful. Games and competitions interspersed with dancing comprised the programme. Mr G. S. Maloney acted as M.C. and music for the dance was supplied by Misses B. Bell, M. Wilks and Mr L. W. Griev.e MOTHER’S UNION. On Friday afternoon members of the Geraldine branch of the Mothers’ j Union, of the St. Mary’s Guild, and n number of friends assembled in the Parish Hall, to hear an address by Mrs West-Watson of Christchurch. Mrs J. P. Peter presided, and introduced the speaker, who gave a most comprehensive and interesting address on the aim and object of the Mother’s Union, dealing with branch of the movement, and treating the subject in a manner which was followed with the keenest interest. At the conclusion of the address, Mrs West-Watson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks, and afternoon tea was dispensed. NOTES. The bogey handicap which was to have been played on Saturday on the Geraldine links had to be postponeu on account of the rain, and the links have been closed for play in the meantime. Considerable interest is being evinced by the announcement that to-morrow night in the Geraldine Town Hall, the “Talkies” will be screened for the first time in Geraldine. GERALDINE PICTURES. A capacity house, and an appreciative audience, greeted the initial screening of the mystery picture “Metropolis” at the Town Hall on Saturday night. JThe picture visulaises the world a century hence, and deals graphically with the future of television, wireless and air transport. “Metropolis” will be screened for the last time to-night.
