Singles, Mrs Watson (England) defeated Miss Helen Jacobs (U.S.A.), in the semifinals, 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Miss Helen Wills (U.S.A.) defeated Mrs Mlchell (England). Miss Helen Wills (U.S.A.) defeated Mrs Watson (England), 6-4, 6-2. Mrs Watson stubbornly contested every point of the first set, getting every inch of length in her shots, and holding on in the rallies. She had 3-2, and was often outplaying Miss Wills, but speed and accuracy overcame the English woman, who tired rapidly. Mrs Watson in the second set, was able to secure the third game, after repeated deucing, and won the seventh at 15-40. but Miss Wills was not to be denied. The gallery barracked for Mrs Watson, and cheered loudly her valiant but ineffective battle. Doubles. Mrs CoVell and Mrs Shepherd Barron (England), defeated Mrs Harper and Edith Cross (U.S.A.), 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. The defeat of Mrs Harper and Edith Cross was due to the steadiness of the English women. Miss Cross’s magnificent volleying in the first set was something she was unable to continue and this, coupled with Mrs Harper's unsteadiness, caused the Americans’ attack to crumble before their opponents’ onslaught. In the semi-final, which was stopped on Friday, on account of rain, Miss Michell and Mrs Watson defeated Miss Betty Nuttall and Miss Helen Jacobs, 11-9, 6-3, 6-4. In the final Mrs Watson and Mrs Mlchell defeated Mrs Shepherd Barron and Mrs Go veil 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. In the finishing match, Interrupted by the rain, Mrs Watson and Mrs Mitchell again demonstrated their superiority in the English women’s doubles play, by defeating Miss Jacobs and Miss Nuthall. Mrs Watson then played her hard match will Miss Helen Wills, and shortly afterwards appeared with Mrs Mitchell for the finals of the doubles, against Mrs Coveil and Mrs Shepherd-Barron. Mrs Watson was obviously tired, and Mrs Mitchell was erratic at the net, and their opponents took the first set handily, but the former recovered to win the second, and continue their rally, to break through to victory, through Mrs Covell’s service in the final game. MEN’S TITLE. At Newport, the men’s national championship tournament was continued. W. T. Tilden (U.S.A.), defeated Wilfred Coen (U.S.A.), 7-5, 6-3, 6-4. G. M. Lott (U.S.A.), defeated J.
