“THE FIRE BUG." FOOLISH CHILDREN. By Tel^rraph—Pres* Association. CHRISTCHURCH, August 24. Reports of the activities of the fire bug seem to have got on to the brain of two Christchurch boys, who came before the Juvenile Court, charged with breaking into a workshop, and stealing tools. They broke in .several times, and after the second time the owner found the following notice chalked on a board: “Me and my shadow—me and the man in the moon; if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again. P.S.—lf you don’t put locks on your doors you will find the place burnt down." —(Signed) “The Fire Bug.’’ After warning the boys, the Magistrate placed them under the control of the Welfare Officer for two years. At the Supreme Court this morning, the Chief Justice gave the following sentences:— James Mullally, breaking, entering, theft and receiving, three years’ reformative detention. Leonard Michael White, breaking, entering, theft and receiving, two years’ detention in the Borstal. Samuel Patrick White, receiving stolen goods, two years’ Borstal. The Whites are to be sent to separate institutions. Rami Watson, negligent driving of a motor lorry, so as to cause death, imprisoned till the rising of the Court. Louis Albert Sarten, negligent driving of a motor lorry so as to cause death, a fine of £2OO. in default six months’ imprisonment. In this case Watson was the employee of Sarten. and drove the lorry at night without lights under the instructions of Sarten. Thomas Martin pleaded guilty to two i charges of incest, and was remanded [ till Tuesday for sentence.
