INDIA’S JUTE STRIKE.
POLICE CHARGE DEFIANT MOBS. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) (Received August 25, 5.5 p.m.) CALCUTTA, August 24. The police and troops charged six thousand jute strikers, who attempted to’ prevent loyal workers entering a mill near Calcutta, and refused to obey the Magistrate’s order to disperse. Several strikers were injured, and three police officials were hurt by stones thrown by mobs. Five men were arrested. The strikers are still being influenced by agitators, but the position is improving. It is hoped there will be full resumption of work on Monday.
