NOPERA CUP. tf Tele*r»»*»—Praae Association DANNEVIRKE, August 24. In a Nopera Cup challenge match, Ruahine-f)annevirke Ladies (holders) beat Otaki on a heavy ground by five goals to nil. NEW ZEALAND LADIES’ TOURNAMENT. The South Canterbury team for the ladies tourney at Gisborne will leave Timaru by this afternoqn’s express. The team will be under the supervision of Mr W. Gow as manager, and Mrs A. Morrison, as chaperon. The personnel of the team is as follows: —A. Robson (Stafford), (capt.), J. Orr (Celtic) (vice-captain), E. Stevens (Temuka), V. Guthrie (Stafford), E. Scott (Winchester), M. De Renzy (Winchester), J. Aker (Winchester), K. Rodgers (Stafford), M. Fitzgerald (Celtic), M. Williamson, M. Packman, and H. Campbell (Stafford), R. Blissett (Stafford). The team is fully representative of the strength of the district, and should give a good account of itself. During their stay in Gisborne the team will be the guests of the Poverty Bay Hockey Association. MEN’S GAMES. Playing at Temuka on Saturday,South End suffered defeat at the hands of the home team. The game was very evenly contested throughout. During the first spell, G. Cowles, B. Hughes and W. Stead narrowly missed scoring for the visitors, whilst Kelland missed several chances for Temuka. The first spell ended without score. Shortly after the resumption a fine solo run by E. Kelland, ended in this player drawing F. Cowles and scoring with a nice shot. During the following ten minutes, play was fast, South End making strenuous efforts to equalise, but the home backs were playing a great game in the mud. Brogden sent his vanguard away, and catching the Blue backs badly out of position, registered Temuka’s second goal. No further score resulted. Temuka 2, South End 0. The referees were Messrs W. E. Stead and L. Dockrill..
