AUSTRALIAN OPEN CHAM-PICx-JSHIR WON BY IVO WHITTON. (United Press Association—By JGlecfcrlo Telegraph—Copyright.) Received August 23, 9.30 p.m. ADELAIDE, August 23. The final of the Open Golf Championship was won by Ivo Whitton, for the fourth time. The scores were:— Whitton 309, Eyre and Stewart (tie for second) with 314, Bissett 318, Howard 319, Russell 321, Morpeth and Hattersly 322, Shaw 327, Mclntosh 328. Whitton showed great form, doing the third round in 77, and the fourth in 79, his average being 309. He missed a long putt by inches, and was unlucky. His wonderful drives were a feature of his play. Eyre and Stewart tied for second place with 314 each, 83 and 80 respectively. Stewart made a remarkable recovery with a brilliant 73 in the third round, playing in foul weather. Eyre was weak at putting. Morpeth lapsed into errors, returning 85. He dropped from the lead to tenth place.
