SOCIAL NOTES.

Mrs J. A. Hutton, Dunedin, is spend-, ing two weeks' holiday at the Hydro. Mr Geo. W. MacAvoy will leave the Hydro this week end for Dunedin. Mr and Mrs E. A. Cockroft, Hart Street, will leave to-day to spend the holidays in Christchurch. Mrs H. Allchurch and her two sons left yesterday to spend a holiday at Mayfield. Mrs W. H. Walton and Miss Dorothy Walton, Park Lane, will leave to-morrow on a visit to Christchurch. Mrs W. A. Moore, Wai-iti Road, is on a visit to her parents. Sir Joseph and Lady Kinsey, Christchurch. Mrs W. Priest, Bank Street, will leave to-day on a visit to Mr and Mrs Gordon Priest, Palmerston North. Miss Islip, Woodlands Road, will leave to-day on a visit to The Hermitage, Mt. Cook. Mr and Mrs W. Thomas, North Street, will leave to-morrow to spend the holidays in Christchurch. Mr J. Waddell and Miss Wid^'-’ 1 Bidwill Street, will leave to-day for Christchurch. Mr and Mrs Harold Wright, who have been spending some weeks in Timaru will return to-day to Mayfield. Mr and Mrs L. C. Simes, Christchurch, left the Hydro on Thursday for a trip to Mount Cook. Miss Mary Martin, Rose Street, and Miss Alma McCallum, Sefton Street, left on Thursday to spend a holiday in Wellington. Mrs E. Inman, Cattle Valley, who was the guest of Mrs William Raymond, Nile Street, returned home yesterday. Mrs W. B. Cunningham acc >mpanied by Miss Anne Cunningham, Brookside, will leave the Hydro to-day for The Hermitage.

Mrs J. A. Jenkins and family motored to the Hydro on Tuesday, and is proceeding to Marlborough for a holiday. Mr and Mrs Smithson, accompanied by Mrs L. Merson, Lower Hutt, motored to the Hydro on Thursday for a short stay in Timaru. Mr and Mrs Edgar Jones and Miss Marjorie Jones, Otiritlri, who have been staying in Auckland and Wellington since their return from Honolulu, will return home to-day. The engagement is announced of Osmond, eldest son of Mr and Mrs A. J. Bridgewater, 8 Preston Street, Timaru, to Nancy, second daughter of the Rev. and Mrs Basil Taylor, of Wakapuaka, Nelson. Mr and Mrs J. W. Adams, the Misses Adams, Wai-iti Road, and Miss L. Wood, will leave to-day on a visit to Christchurch.

Miss Ann Carver has returned to the Nurses’ Home, after paying a short visit to Mrs S. J. Black, Hunter. On August 10, the home of Mr and Mrs McLean, Page’s Road, was the scene of a gay coming-of-age party in honour of their eldest daughter* Eurus. The major part of the evening was devoted to dancing, while musical numbers were contributed by Messrs Bob Hawke (piano). Jack Hawke (violin), and Clarence Jackson (songs). During supper the usual toasts were honoured, those speaking being Mr C. E. Hooper, Mr R. Morris (Bluecliffs), and Mr G. Helens (Rangitata). Mr McLean responded on behalf of his daughter. SEND-OFF AT CLANDEBOYE. Recently a very pleasant evening was spent in the Clandeboye Hall, when the residents gathered to say farewell to Mr and Mrs E. Taylor, and Master Philip Taylor, who are leaving the district to take up their residence at Cricklewood. . Mr D. J. Pemberton, in making a presentation, spoke of the long residence of Mr and Mrs Taylor in this district, and of the help they had always given so willingly in furthering the interests of Clandeboye, Mrs Kyne then presented Mrs Taylor with a handsome dinner set and cutlery; Mr Taylor with a set of Leowe pipes; and Master Philip with a set of military brushes. Other speakers who eulogised the guests of the evening and wished them every success and happiness were Messrs Craig, Staniland and Coochey. Mr Taylor thanked the people for their gifts and good wishes to Mrs Taylor and himself, and gave some amusing reminiscences of earlier times in Clandeboye. Dancing occupied the remainder of the evening.
