SAFE-BREAKERS CAUGHT. NEW PLYMOUTH, August 23. Littered with implements popularly associated with safe-breaking and burglary, and with smashed portions of a safe, the Supreme Court to-day presented an unusual appearance, when the mystery regarding the theft of a safe was solved. James Mullally and Leonard Michael White were found guilty of breaking and entering the bacon factory of F. Walker and Son and stealing a safe valued at £3O, and £7 in cash. They were remanded for sentence till tomorrow. Samuel Patrick White and Leonard Michael White were found guilty of receiving goods stolen from premises In Eltham, and were remanded for sentence. THEFT BY CIVIL SERVANT. INVERCARGILL, August 22. A young man, 21 years of age, an employee in a Government Department, appeared in the Police Court today to answer a charge that he did steal £26/15 the property of the New Zealand Government. He pleaded guilty, asking to be dealt with summarily. The Magistrate said he felt It was always one of his greatest responsibilities to deal with a young man on the threshold of life, and he would reserve his decision till to-morrow. On the application of Counsel, His Worship ordered the suppression of accused's name, at least until decision was given.
