MART REPORTS.

“THE RIALTO.” H. Allchurch and Co. report for the week ended August 17th: —Owing to Carnival week in Christchurch, business was not as brisk as usual, but at our weekly sale there was a keen competition for good table poultry. Pigs were also all cleared at very satisfactory prices. Apples are firming in price for all keeping lines. A line of Fiji bananas arrived in splendid condition and sold readily. Oranges and imported lemons are not very plentiful. Table potatoes have advanced in price, and good sound varieties are urgently wanted. Supplies of carrots and parsnips are consumed as soon as they come to hand. Good cabbage and cauliflower are also scarce, cauliflower realising up to 9/- per dozen. S.C. Circle eggs are now down to almost bedrock prices. The following are the various prices realised: — Poultry—Hens 4/3 to 7/-, cockerels 4/9 to 7/9, roosters 5/- to 6/3, ducks 5/6 to 6/3 pair; turkey hens 9/6 to 12/each; one pen was sold at 6/- each. Pigs.—Weaners 8/-, 9/-, 11/-, slips to 24/6. Produce.—Wheat, good whole 21/-, broken and inferior 14/- to 17/-; oats 8/- to 11/-; potatoes (table) at beginning of week were 13/- to 14/-, but now are up to 17/6; turnips 5/-, carrots 10/6, parsnips 9/- sack; Californian onions up to 22/6 case; carrots, parsnips and swedes in sugar bags 2/- to 2/6 kit. Fruit.—Apples 7/6 to 12/6, spotted 5/6 to 6/6, cookers 4/6 to 6/6; Fiji bananas 22/6, naval oranges 22/6 *to 29/S; New Zealand lemons 18/6 to 25/-; walnuts 7d to 9d lb. Eggs.—Large consignments are coming forward, and prices were down to 1/4 per dozen on August 16th, with probably a further drop during the coming week. Furniture and effects.—There is not much moving at present, but any good lines that come to hand are quickly cleared. Property.—We have to report a good demand for properties to rent, storekeeping and boarding-house businesses, houses of from 4 or 5 rooms; and sheep fattening farms and oastoral runs.
