TRADE WITH DUTCH INDIES.
SHIPPING MEN ON TOUR OP INQUIRY. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLIINGTON, August 21. By the Ulimaroa there arrived Messrs Pronk and Ewarts, representatives of the Dutch East Indies Shipping Company to inquire into the prospects of direct trade with the East. They will discuss matters with the Prime Minister and producers and exporters, but will not have time to visit the South Island. They consider New Zealand handicapped by having to trade through Australia, and tranship there, which kills its chance of getting a footing in Uie East. With direct service they think there is an excellent chance of building up trade in dairy produce. More meat was being used in tlie East, but there are still religious obstacles to *be overcome. The tourist traffic is also a factor to be considered.
