CANE SUGAR.
CULTIVATION IN PAPUA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) SYDNEY, August 21. A message from Cairns states that the cultivation of sugar cane on a large scale in Papua is contemplated by a syndicate of Cairns and New Guinea business men, who are arranging to acquire 20,000 acres to supply a mill in the northern division of Papua, The syndicate proposes to produce sugar to compete in the world’s market with the produce of other dark labour countries.
