MAGISTRATES COURT. At a civil sitting of the Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday morning. before Messrs F. E. Childs and W. E. Evans, J.P.’s, the following business was transacted: Jean Ravenwood v. H. Beattie, claim £4/2/-, costs £l/3/6; Lloyd Betten v. C. S. Cunningham, claim £l/5/8, costs 10/-; same v. S. Turner, costs only, 12/-. Judgment was given in each case. RUGBY SUB.-UNION. A meeting of the Waimate Rugby Sub.-Union was held on Monday night. The president (Mr P. V. Stevens), was in the chair, Messrs W. Dench, J. Dench, T. Turnbull and W. Granger. A donation of £5 was received from the South Canterbury Rugby Union towards the funds for the purchase of school footballs.—lt was decided to forward a letter of thanks to the Union. It was resolved that letters of congratulation be sent to the Old Boys and Marist Clubs on their winning the senior and knock-out competitions respectively. Permission was granted to Old Boys senior team to travel to Fairlie on Saturday next to play for the Burnett Shield. The draw for Thursday resulted as follows: Seniors. Southern v. Leahy, Clerk of the Court at Waimate, has been appointed on promotion to second clerk at Hamilton. Mr D. W. Webster, on the staff of the Magistrate’s Court, Dunedin, will succeed Mr Leahy at Waimate. SILVER BAND. The Waimate Silver Band has appointed Mr H. F. Vincent to the position of conductor. Mr Vincent has had a lengthy experience in band work, having recently been solo cornetist to the Grey mouth Municipal Band, a position he filled for some time previously in the Wellington Watersiders, Queen Alexandra’s Own (Wanagnui), and Palmerston North Bands. In some of these organisation!; he held the position of deputy-organiser. LECTURES TO FARMERS. The lectures to farmers in the Silver Band Hall to-day will be:—Manuring of Crops (Mr R.
