WHEAT POOL. A meeting of members of the Wheat Pool was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Monday evening, for the purpose of nominating members to the Electoral Committee. Mr A. J. Davey, president of the Temuka branch of the Farmers’ Union, presided over a small attendance. The chairman explained that at a meeting of the Timaru Executive of the Union, held last week, it was mentioned that the Electoral Committee would consist of ten members, and that the Temuka branch should nominate two of these. Unlike the Meat Board Electoral Committee, the Electoral Committee of the Wheat Pool would hold office for twelve months, or as long as there was any business for it to do. This Electoral Committee would, in turn, elect four directors. In reply to Mr J. A. Paterson, the chairman said that members of the Electoral Committee would require to j attend the annual meeting of the Pool in Christchurch, and probably another meeting at Timaru later. Nominations were then received for two members of the Electoral Committee, Messrs Talbot and J. A. Paterson being elected. MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB. KENTUCKY JUBILEE SINGERS. Temuka is to-night to be given an 1 opportunity to hear the famour Kentucky Jubilee Singers, one of the outstanding attractions in America for many years. The Williamson management endeavoured five years ago to engage the Kentucky Jubille Singers for a tour of Australia and New Zealand, but their services were in such great demand that it is only now that they have been successful. The company is said to be the very best of its kind the world’s stage has ever known. It includes Messrs Arthur Gaines and Robert Caver (first tenors), Hilton Jones and Augustus Simons (second tenors), Archie Cross and William Veasey (first basses), Arthur Payne and Matt Houseley (second basses). The entertainment will include nigger spirituals, plantation melodies and eccentric dance solos. The box plan is at McMillan’s. 1 : :

ORARI CO -OP. DAIRY C^Y. The annual report and balance sheet of the Orari Co-operative Dairy Co. to be presented at the annual meeting of shareholders to-night, states that the most pleasing aspect of the season’s work had been the considerably increased supply, representing approximately 14 tons of cheese. It was felt that this was to some extent due to top-dressing and improved pastoral management. The directors urged suppliers to continue the good work in this direction. Suppliers were urged to maintain their endeavour to improve the quality of their milk, as it was through this that the factory would be able to make an even greater proportion of finest cheese. There was at present under review a new contract governing f.o.b. sales, included in which is a provision for a higher payment for finest cheese. During the season an advance payment of 1/5 per lb butterfat had been made to suppliers, and whilst it was not possible to definitely indicate the final results, as a considerable quantity of cheese remains unrealised, directors would spare no effort to bring the final payment up to as high a figure as possible. It seemed, however, hardly likely that the company would be able to retain the enviable position which it has held during past years—that of paying out the highest price in the district. The average test showed a commendable increase, indicating that suppliers were improving the grade of their herds. During the season an effort was made to organise the "bobby” calf business to South Canterbury, with happy results, the final payment being 9/- per calf, which was as high as any in New Zealand. Messrs S. R. Muff, A. South and F. South, the retiring directors, were re-elected, no additional nominations being received.
