ROTARY.

STATEMENT BY SIR ALEXANDER ROBERTS. Telegraph — Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, February 27. Reference to the Papal pronouncement against Rotary, was made to-day at the Rotary conference, by Sir Alexunder Roberts, who expressed the nope that the question would not be allowed to interfere with the harmony of the movement in New Zealand. “I think it is only right that I should refer to the Papal announcement you have seen published,” said Sir Alexander Roberts. “It comes as a great surprise to this district. As vou know, in Rotary, we have neither creed nor politics. 11l the Clubs of Now Zealand we have many re 1 miens represented, and all work together towards a common end. It would he a very great disaster if anything should happen to break up the harmony that exists. 1 may soy that, in inv own Club, in Wellington. 1 dc mil know lit.- religion of one querter of the members; nor do T know their political leanings. Titos mo things do mu exist in Rotarv. I think it is a groat pi tv 'that this question should ; ver have been raised, and I trust that wo will be able to keep it clear of the .bird, district (New Zealand).
