Mr H. Redding, of Auckland, is at present visiting Timaru. Miss Veda Townsend, of Hassall Street, has received notification that ehe has passed the final examination for the M.A. degree. Mr Frank Goldberg, J.P., F.E.S., governing-director of the Goldberg Advertising Agency, passed through Timaru yesterday on his way to Dunedin. The Rev. W. A. Hay, formerly ot Timaru Methodist Church, has been transferred by Conference to- Western Australia. A Press Association telegram from Marton pays that a large gathering of Reform supporters in the Rangitikei electorate presented Mr W. S. Glenn, ex-member, with a piece of Bilver plate in recognition of his nine years’ services in the House, especially in the interests of farmers. Mr Coates was present, and he eulogised the services of Mr Glenn. On the occasion of his departure from Timaru (having accepted a position as assistant meat inspector at Horotu, Hamilton), Mr Eric Halstead was met by members and staff of the New Zealand Refrigerating Company at Smithfield, to bid him farewell. In saying good-bye, Mr Trengrove, chief clerk expressed regret at Mr Halstead’s departure, but congratulated him on his promotion, and wished him good luck in his new sphere, at the same time asking him to accept a solid leather suit case and travelling rug. Mr Innes also spoke, and wished him the best of luck. Mr Halstead suitably replied.

On the eve of his departure for Hamilton, Mr E. Halstead was met at the Old Bank Hotel by members of the Old Boys’ Football Club, and made the recipient of a gold-moun ! ed fountain pen, suitably inscribed. The presentation was made by Mr G. P. Lawson, club captain, in the absence of the president (Mr G. R. M. Jones). Mr Lawson expressed regret at the loss of such a valuable member, and one who was very popular both on and off the field. Mr Halstead n.id been one of their most enlliusias'ic members, and his position, both as a club and representative footballer, would be hard to fill. However, the club wished him every success in liis new sphere of life, and congratulated him on his business promotion. Several other members spake, all referring in high terms to Mr Halstead’s qualities. In reply, Mr Halstead returned thanks for the kindness which had prompted the gift and good wishes. He regretted leaving his fei-low-memhers. but wished the club the best of luck. Mr Halstead left for Hamilton yesterday.
