SUNDAY PICNICS.

To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —After perusing a letter written by a correspondent in reference to Sunday picnics, I shall deem it a favour, if you will allow me to reply to his letter. Can the writer point to one verse in the Bible that we are to observe this day (Sunday). I have searched the Bible from Genesis to Revelations, and cannot find : one instance of this occurring. Yet I can quote dozens of texts that we are to keep the proper Sabbath. I will refrain from quoting texts, but will give a few leading churchmen instead: Archdeacon Farrar, Canon Eyton (of Westminster). Canon Knox Little, Dr. R. W. Dale (British Congregationalist), Dr. Edward T. Hiscock (Baptist), Dr. D. H. Lucas, Cardinal Gibbons (Roman Cathoiic;. All of these leading men state we can search the Bible from cover to cover and will not find a single line authorising the sanctification of Sunday. So why does your correspondent make such a noise over the Caroline Bay workers having an outing on the wrong rest day. If the writer can prove I am wrong and these leaders ol* churches, I am quite willing to donate £2O to the Caroline Bay Association.—l am, etc., SUNDAY PICNICS.
